By all accounts, I probably really shouldn’t like this one. I am generally drawn to scents that evoke an entirely different kind of comfort, but Tom Ford’s creation pulled me in against my own better judgment. What truly arrested my attention was a sudden, unexpected wave of nostalgia: the distinct, warm, cherry pipe tobacco aroma that immediately reminded me of my father’s pipe-smoking phase. It is a scent memory anchored in warmth, crackling fire, and a sense of safe, domestic quietude. However, there was a hurdle to clear before bringing it home. The nomenclature of the bottle is a little more double entendre than I am strictly comfortable with—especially when I am simply trying to lean into a wholesome, nostalgic memory. Yet, the pull of that specific, rich tobacco-and-fruit air was too potent to ignore.
While many complain about this fragrance being overly sweet, it behaves entirely differently on my skin. I don't get a syrupy or jammy opening at all—it goes straight to a dry, sophisticated cherry pipe tobacco. Once on my skin, the slightly scandalous marketing completely fades into the background, leaving behind something genuinely magnificent. I also asked my daughter to test the fragrance and it immediately foregrounded a hint of vanilla on her skin. In short, Lost Cherry settles into a deep, comforting, multi-layered warmth that feels intensely personal rather than loud or performative. It behaves beautifully throughout a normal day of reading, writing, and independent study. While the branding might belong to the fast-paced modern world, the actual juice belongs entirely to a quiet archive room lined with glossy mahogany and old books.
